The Nature of Peak Experiences

What would you do if you had an extra 2-3 hours a day?

This workshop will help you get to the root of distraction and procrastination so you can re-purpose all that wasted time to find your focus and achieve any goal you set for yourself.

Here are just some of the benefits of taking charge of your digital distractions:

  1. Replace mindless scrolling on social media with reading a book a week.
  2. Spend less time consuming content and a lot more time creating it.
  3. Switch from shallow work sandwiched between distractions to deep work.
  4. Enjoy more time for the meaningful and challenging activities that trigger flow.

Discover the fascinating neuroscience behind how apps, websites and social media are designed to hook your attention and install mindless habits that make you avoid discomfort while craving instant gratification and external validation.

This way they can harvest as much of your attention as possible and maximize their time to target you with ads and influencers promoting external motivators such as rewards, punishments, money, status comparison and recognition.

Yet, three decades of flow state psychology research has found that we feel and perform our best when we are driven by mindful habits that are oriented toward internal motivators such as autonomy, mastery, purpose, fulfillment and belonging.

This workshop on Mindfulness, Flow States And The Art of Peak Experiences will explore both the science and practice of how to implement the mindful habits that will free your mind from the mindless habits that steal your time, energy and attention.

We will explore 3 key pillars of building mindful habits that stick so you can start to reclaim 2-3 hours a day from your distractions:

1. Mindfulness

“Mindfulness is paying attention in a particular way, in the present moment, on purpose, non-judgmentally… You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”

— Jon Kabat-Zinn

Mindfulness involves learning to observe your thoughts, feelings and sensations without judgement so you can understand the emotional triggers that underlie them and keep you reacting on autopilot.

In today’s attention economy where a quick dopamine hit from your smartphone is rarely ever more than arm’s reach away, integrating mindful habits into your day can help you waste a lot less time sucked in the vortex of digital distractions.

This workshop will explain how to use simple mindfulness practices to stop your stress response on command and trigger your relaxation response so you can start to mindfully observe your urges and start to overcome their magnetic pull over you.

2. Flow States

”Contrary to what we usually believe, the best moments in our lives, are not the passive, receptive, relaxing times—although such experiences can also be enjoyable, if we have worked hard to attain them. The best moments usually occur when a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile. Optimal experience is thus something that we make happen.

― Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

Flow states occur when we are completely focused and involved in a single meaningful and challenging activity for long periods of time without distractions or interruptions.

The evolution of humanity is based around people taking risks, dedicating themselves to a mission and purposing the flow state with determination to elevate their performance in the service of making a difference in other people’s lives.

This workshop will explore the key mindset of intrinsic motivation and the process of how to consistently get into flow so you can experience a greater sense of focused immersion when you are working, learning and playing on your outdoor adventures in the mountains.

3. Peak Experiences

“During the peak experience, the individual experiences an expansion of self, a sense of unity, and meaningfulness in life. The experience lingers in one’s consciousness and gives a sense of purpose, integration, self-determination and empathy. The emotional reaction in the peak experience has a special flavor of wonder, of awe, of reverence, of humility and surrender.”

― Abraham Maslow

Peak experiences are those moments of self-transcendence when life intuitively makes sense, you are filled with awe and wonder, and you feel a renewed sense of purpose and meaning.

Just like with mindfulness and flow states, peak experiences can be cultivated by understanding their external and internal triggers. You can harness their proven triggers to get out of your own way and find the inspiration and motivation to do the creative things that matter to you.

We will explore each of the 7 most powerful triggers for peak experiences and how you can start integrating them into your life to do more of what makes you come alive and helps you recharge and reconnect.
